What I Know

* I know the details of IDEA 2004 and Article 7 (Indiana's Special Education laws) and how to use them to acquire a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).

* I know the importance of helping families understand those laws so they can advocate effectively for their child.

* I know that some school districts offer standard services and accomodations/modifications based on a child's label, even if they don't meet the needs of that particular child.

* I know how to assist families in obtaining appropriate services and accomodations/modifications for their child's specific needs in the classroom.

* I know my limitations.  I am a great special education advocate and can be a huge asset during Case Conference Committee meetings and mediations, but I am NOT a lawyer.  If there comes a time when Due Process is necessary, I will gladly refer you to a skilled attorney who specializes in special education law.
